A Sign in the Northwest Passage (Sculpture)
2010
cedar, concrete, oak barrels, sisal rope, aircraft cable, steel
16 × 20 × 12 ft (above ice)

I built a floating wooden billboard inscribed with a list of all the negative events described in the biblical book of Revelations and transported it from Vancouver to the coast of the Beaufort Sea. Here, I installed it on seasonal ice at the western entrance to the North West   passage, leaving it to survive the summer melt and drift, bringing its message of doom to vessels navigating the Passage. Cruise and container shipping has steadily risen in the passage as global warming lessens the risk of ice blockage.
