I work in a lot of media; sculpture, installation, video, photography, watercolour and performance, While my practice is multi-disciplinary, a material and sculptural investigation remains at its core, being a key part of my overall subjective investigation into spectacle - Guy DeBord’s phrase to describe the totalizing effects of media and entertainment.

My work makes the apparatus of spectacle visible by treating its material footprint, designed to be overlooked and ignored, as a sculptural material to be seen and considered. In doing so, my research reveals the ideological framework of spectacle, making experiential how it frames our understandings of material, media, and the world.

Another way to put this is that my practice considers the material, physical, and social footprints involved in spectacle - that is the images that inform our reality - and the presentation of these as just as indexical to the image as the objects and situations that were in front of the lens. So doing provokes questions as to where the aura of an artwork resides – whether in the direct experience of a physical artwork, in the stories that surround it, or in the photographic representation of it. The artworks shown often here involve lens-based documentation of my own performance or sculpture, designed to circulate through the museum, in print, or online, indicating entangled relationships between what is documented and the document itself.
